Home Renovations
Alongside my design projects, I have completed multiple home renovations for my parents, focusing on improving existing spaces through reuse, repair, and thoughtful material choices. I have always been interested in upcycling and working with what already exists rather than starting from scratch. Outside of design, my hobbies include building and repairing watches, working on cars, and assembling computers, which has shaped a hands-on approach to problem-solving and a strong understanding of how things are constructed and maintained.
Background
This project focused on improving an aging front porch ceiling that suffered from poor lighting, surface wear, and overall discoloration from long-term exposure. The space was updated to improve brightness, cleanliness, and visual cohesion, resulting in a more welcoming exterior entry while maintaining the existing structure.
Key Decisions
The wood species was selected based on outdoor durability and long-term exposure to the elements. Board thickness was determined by existing fitment constraints to ensure proper installation without altering the structure. Plank orientation was chosen to visually elongate the space, making the porch feel wider and more open.
Progress
Key Decisions
The original surface-mounted light fixtures were replaced with recessed can lighting to create a cleaner ceiling plane and more controlled, even illumination. The base wall was painted black to add depth and allow both the television and the wood elements to visually recede into the space rather than stand out as separate objects. Vertically oriented wooden slats were then installed to introduce texture and rhythm, with their orientation intentionally chosen to emphasize height and give the wall a more architectural presence.
Background
This project focused on upgrading a standard living room TV wall to create a stronger visual focal point. The original wall included surface-mounted lighting and lacked depth and contrast. I was drawn to the use of vertical wood elements in modern interiors and wanted to incorporate this language to add warmth, rhythm, and architectural depth. The goal was to modernize the space while keeping the intervention contained to a single wall.
Final
Background
This project involved a full renovation of an existing bathroom with the goal of improving usability, material quality, and overall appearance. The original space felt dated and poorly organized, with fixtures and finishes that did not work well together. The redesign focused on creating a cleaner, more modern bathroom while improving day-to-day functionality within the constraints of the existing footprint.
Key Decisions
Material selection focused on creating contrast and a cohesive modern look. The tile layout was carefully chosen to introduce pattern and texture while still working within the scale of the space, with a dark blue tile used to add depth and define the shower area. Silver fixtures and hardware were selected to keep the space visually clean and consistent, providing contrast against the darker surfaces while maintaining a restrained, contemporary feel.
